Seine Arbeitsweise könnte man am ehesten mit »funky Minimal« bezeichnen: In den frühen 1980er-Jahren immer wieder den Künstlern des »Neo-Geo« zugeordnet, entzieht sich Gerwald Rockenschaub (* 1952) inzwischen längst dieser Etikettierung. Aus einem abstrakt-minimalistischen Rahmen heraus hat er mittlerweile eine innovative Palette an neuen Werken entwickelt. Inspirationsquellen für seine oft raumgreifenden, farbleuchtenden Arbeiten findet Rockenschaub sowohl bei den Positionen der Moderne, abstrakten Konzepten, der Pop-Art, der Minimal Art, in der Alltagskultur und nicht zuletzt in der Techno- und Elektroszene, der er bisweilen noch heute als DJ verbunden ist.
