Meist weitab von Ortschaften, folgt die Strecke dem Lauf der Steyr durch eines der reizvollsten Täler der Region Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen. Über Neuzeug und Letten geht es nach Aschach an der Steyr und weiter zur Haltestelle Sommerhubermühle, bevor kurz vor Grünburg der Fluss mit einer mächtigen Bogenbrücke überquert wird. Endstation der Schmalspurbahn ist der Bahnhof Grünburg, von dem man in wenigen Minuten die malerische Altstadt von Steinbach an der Steyr erreichen kann.
