Calixto Duque's memoirs focuses on the time during World War II when he chose the life of a guerilla with a price of his head rather than collaborate with the Japanese Imperial Army and hold a high office in the puppet government. He joined the guerillas in Northern Luzon and was designated G-3, GHQ USAFIP NL. The plans he drew up enabled the USAFIP-NL to breach Gen. Tomoyuki YamashitaÕs mountain fortress, incapacitate his troops by demolishing their weapons and supplies, and cut off their contact with Japan. This left the Japanese Imperial Forces in the Philippines with no other alternative but to surrender, bringing an end to World War II in the Pacific arena.
