Designed for service providers and enterprise edge networks, the Cisco 892FSP Gigabit Ethernet Security Router with SFP delivers dependable Metro Ethernet connectivity with built-in security at the CPE. This compact, high-value router combines robust routing performance, enterprise-grade security features, and flexible uplink options, making it an ideal choice for sites that require reliable WAN connectivity, strong protection, and straightforward management. Whether deployed as a Metro Ethernet CPE for a business customer or as a secure edge router in a distributed network, the 892FSP is engineered to keep networks connected, safe, and easy to manage under demanding conditions.

  • Metro Ethernet CPE with failover and load balancing: The 892FSP is built to provide resilient WAN connectivity, automatically switching between links and distributing traffic to prevent downtime. This capability helps maintain uninterrupted access for critical applications, cloud services, and voice traffic, even when one path experiences disruption.
  • 8-port managed switch with flexible uplink options: An integrated, scalable LAN solution lets you connect multiple devices directly at the customer premises while leveraging SFP uplinks for fiber or high-speed backhaul. This combination supports efficient network segmentation, robust QoS, and simplified cable management at the edge.
  • Security you can rely on: The router includes an advanced security stack with stateful firewall capabilities, VPN support (IPSec), and other protective features designed to guard your edge network from threats. With these protections in place, you can confidently deploy business-critical applications and sensitive data over the WAN.
  • Flexible management and provisioning: Cisco’s familiar management interfaces—whether you prefer a browser-based GUI or a CLI—enable quick setup, policy creation, and ongoing monitoring. Remote management options streamline provisioning for service providers and IT teams supporting multiple sites, reducing truck rolls and accelerating deployment timelines.
  • Designed for service providers and enterprise deployments: The 892FSP blends enterprise-grade capabilities with a compact footprint suitable for CPE racks or secure cabinet installations. Its hardware and software design prioritize reliability, easy upgrade paths, and long-term support to meet evolving network requirements.

How to install Cisco 892FSP

  • Step 1: Prepare the installation site Choose a clean, ventilated cabinet or mounting area with adequate airflow. Ensure the power supply is stable and protected from surges. Have your network diagrams and ISP credentials ready for quick reference during configuration.
  • Step 2: Power and connect the device Connect the Cisco 892FSP to a reliable power source and place it in a secure, accessible location. Attach the WAN link from your ISP or fiber termination into the appropriate WAN/SFP port, and connect your LAN devices to the 8-port switch interface. If you are using SFP uplinks, insert the fiber transceivers and connect the host network as required.
  • Step 3: Access the management interface Use a computer on the LAN to reach the device’s management interface via its default address (as documented in the quick start guide). Log in with the initial credentials and begin with a secure password change. If you are integrating with a service provider’s provisioning system, follow their guidelines for initial onboarding.
  • Step 4: Configure the WAN connection Set up the WAN interface with your service’s connection type (DHCP, static IP, PPPoE, etc.). If using Metro Ethernet, apply the appropriate VLAN tagging and MTU settings as specified by your service provider. Validate path reachability to test inbound and outbound connectivity.
  • Step 5: Enable security features Activate the firewall rules, create VPN tunnels (IPSec if required), and enable any intrusion protection or anti-malware policies provided by the device. Tailor access control lists (ACLs) to protect the edge while allowing legitimate traffic for business-critical applications.
  • Step 6: Configure the LAN and QoS Define your internal network segments, assign IP ranges, and configure Quality of Service (QoS) policies to prioritize latency-sensitive traffic such as VoIP and video conferencing. Ensure the 8-port switch is configured for VLANs if segmentation is needed for guest networks or department-level isolation.
  • Step 7: Save, backup, and update Save the configuration, back up to a secure repository, and verify you’re running a current firmware version. If updates are available, test them in a controlled environment before applying them to production networks to minimize disruption.
  • Step 8: Monitor and manage Use the monitoring dashboards to track WAN health, firewall events, VPN status, and traffic patterns. Establish alerting rules for link failures, high CPU usage, or unusual security events to respond quickly and maintain service levels.
  • Step 9: Plan for growth As your network expands, leverage the SFP uplinks and VLAN capabilities to accommodate additional sites or services. The 892FSP’s modularity supports evolving requirements without a complete hardware refresh.

Pretty funny
Format: Hardcover
The book gives us a more focused outlook on Chieg Wiggum. Full of its funny moments, I`d recomend this to huge Simpsons fans as it seems the shows writers managed to give us another hit.

Not the best, but not the worst either
Format: Hardcover
By any means not the funniest book in the series, only the one on Krusty the Clown was more un-funny; but still a worthy addition to your collection and, just like all the others from the series providing a retrospective of anecdotes you might have forgotten.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.
