The Manix model started as a dedicated hard-use design from the mind of Eric Glesser, son of Spyderco founder Sal Glesser. Eric designed the original Manix to be a large, ergonomic, tough, workhorse of a knife. And it was. The original Manix was approximately the size of the current Manix XL (almost 9" overall) and utilized a sturdy back lock mechanism. To make the folder more carry able and user friendly, later versions reduced the size and eventually switched over to Spyderco's patented Ball Bearing lock. Another accolade of this enuring design is the Lightweight version of the Manix winning Blade Show's "Most Innovative American Design" award in 2010.

The Ball Bearing lock is a unique, self adjusting lock that is incredibly strong and user friendly. It uses a large steel ball bearing (hence the name) that wedges between the tang of the blade and the steel housing that holds the locking mechanism. Because the bearing is circular, it can adjust and seat itself deeper onto the tang of the blade over the knife's life, ensuring consistent, strong lockup. Users actuate the lock by pulling down on each side of the textured plastic cage that surrounds the ball bearing, making is easy to use for most hand sizes and while wearing gloves.

This special version features CruWear and brown Micarta, known as the "CruCarta" edition. This sort of old school tool steel and natural handle material scheme was inspired by the Z-Wear and Micarta sprint run of the Shaman that was produced a few years ago. Since then this configuration has spawned variants of numerous models, including the Manix, PM2, and more recently the Military 2 along with the Para 3.

Refunded my purchase price
I purchased the "TESmart" 2 computer KVM Switch. I always get the added warranty these day for electronics and I am glad I did. It has now been 3 years and the unit has stopped working correctly. It would switch between computers but the mouse and keyboard stopped working for one of the computers. I'm not sure exactly which component stopped working because the keyboard and mouse worked fine for the other computer. I did plugged the mouse and keyboard directly to the computer in question and they worked fine. I believe the "push threw" stopped for my W11 computer, meanwhile, the W7 computer keeps trucking on. I say all that to say this, it's worth paying a few dollars more to get that little bit of extra security on the electronics these days. Unfortunately the prices have gone up on the KVM switches, at least the ones worth buying so I am in search of a new one now. ASURION was easy to work with. It wasn't that much of a hassle. The slight glitch I experienced was their automatic system didn't register my claim correctly. Only mistake I made was making the claim over a weekend. I would say if you make a claim do it during the normal business hours. I was able to chat with an agent during working hours and they were able to remedy the issue quickly. I did have to ship the KVM switch and its components to Asurion but they paid for shipping and once I was able to package and ship the unit back, Asurion refunded my purchase price completely with an Amazon Gift Card. So, all in all, it's all good!
