This is the only set of 2 Damascus hawkbill folding knives at JW Steel Crafts with black resin rosewood and cream resin rosewood handle combinations in a liner lock configuration.

The History Behind This Blade

Hawkbill blade folders were carried by sailors, riggers, and field workers across the 19th-century American frontier for their ability to cut rope, cord, and material on a downward pull stroke where a straight blade would slip. Paired knife sets became a practical tradition among working outdoorsmen who needed matching tools for two users on the same camp or hunt. Damascus steel brought layered pattern-welded strength into compact folding formats built for sustained daily carry. The JW Steel Crafts Damascus hawkbill pair carries that same working tradition in both knives.

Blade Performance

Both blades are forged from Damascus steel in a wave pattern finish. The hawkbill profile curves sharply downward from spine to tip — built for pull cutting tasks where a straight or clip point blade loses control. The curved tip pulls through rope, cord, webbing, and material cleanly on a single downward stroke. Damascus steel holds a sharp working edge through daily carry and cutting use. The brass thumb stud on each knife allows fast one-hand deployment from a closed position.

Handle Construction

Each handle pairs two distinct scale materials above and below the centerline. Knife one uses black resin on the upper scale and dark rosewood on the lower scale. Knife two uses cream resin on the upper scale and dark rosewood on the lower scale. Rosewood is dense and moisture-resistant through daily outdoor carry. Brass bolsters sit at the blade end of each handle, adding front-end weight and protecting the handle joint. Brass pins lock every scale firmly to the liner. The liner lock on each knife engages automatically on blade opening and holds the blade rigid during cutting until manually released.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this set different from other folding knives at JW Steel Crafts?
Only paired 2-knife Damascus hawkbill set in the store — black resin rosewood and cream resin rosewood handles together in one liner lock configuration.

What is a hawkbill blade profile?
The blade curves sharply downward to the tip — built for pull cutting through rope, cord, and material where a straight blade loses grip.

What is a liner lock?
A steel liner inside the handle engages automatically when the blade opens, locking it rigid for safe cutting until manually pushed aside to close.

Are both knives identical in size?
Yes. Both open to 7 inches with a 3-inch blade and 4-inch handle — only the handle scale colors differ between the two knives.

Is this set suitable as a gift?
Yes. Two matched Damascus hawkbill folders in contrasting handle colors make a strong gift for EDC users, knife collectors, and outdoor enthusiasts.

How do I care for these knives?
Wipe blades dry after use. Apply light oil to pivot points occasionally. Store in a dry place away from moisture.

The Epson F170 has been ideal for getting started with sublimation. It's easy to use, prints vibrant and defined colors, and has allowed me to personalize various projects with excellent results. As a beginner, it has given me a lot of confidence to learn and create without complications. I definitely recommend it for anyone starting out in sublimation.

No returns and no support. If it doesn't work properly, too bad.
Style: Printer & Inks, Style: Printer & Inks
I was fairly happy with my Epson ET 2800, but was told that I'd get better colors with the F170. So I bit the bullet. The installation went smoothly and I was printing in short order. It was when I started printing items that had some dark gray that I noticed the problem. It was printing green. I contacted Epson tech support and they answered the phone almost immediately. (And how rare is that??) The woman I spoke with seemed to be familiar with the problem and advised me to modify the printer preferences and change the color correction from "ICM" to "No color correction". Well, it wasn't printing green anymore. Now the grays were brown. At this point, she ran out of ideas and gave me an email address for the second level of tech support and asked if I'd send a photo of the printed fabrics showing the problem. I did. That was over three weeks ago. I've sent a couple of followup emails, but they're ignoring me. But the best news was discovering that there are no returns on this product. I didn't think that was a thing with Amazon and I've never had any problems before. So now the 30-day return window is about to elapse and it appears that I'm stuck with an oversized doorstop. In the photo I'm including with this review, the fabric on the upper-left was printed with my Epson ET 2800. On the upper right, the F170 with ICM color correction. On the bottom, the F170 with no color correction.
