Bakhtiari Khorjin Saddle Bag • Handmade Oriental Carpet Wall Hanging • 3x8 Vintage Persian Runner Rug for Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, Hallway & Study
✔ Handwoven by Bakhtiari tribes in northwest Persia, this striking 1940s tribal piece was originally crafted as a saddle bag (khorjin) to be carried on the back of horses or camels. Over time, it has been professionally flattened and converted into a runner, revealing its full artistry and texture in a single plane.
What makes these pieces remarkable is the combination of three weaving techniques — pile, kilim, and soumak — woven together into one textile. The result is a rare, tactile surface with depth, contrast, and history you can feel. The central pile panels display rich geometric medallions framed by borders in crimson red and indigo blue, accented with saffron orange and ivory motifs.
Made with naturally-dyed hand-spun wool on a wool foundation, this runner has aged gracefully, preserving its vibrancy and integrity after nearly eight decades. It adds cultural character and warmth whether placed in a hallway, at a bed’s foot, or hung as a wall tapestry.
