Formed in London in 1963, The Yardbirds were one of the most influential bands of the 1960s. With their mix of forward-thinking pop singles, wiry blues numbers, and instrumental freakouts, they became pioneers of psychedelia, garage and blues rock. Along with the core line-up of Keith Relf (vocals and harmonica), Jim McCarty (drums), Paul Samwell-Smith (bass), and Chris Dreja (rhythm guitar), the group are known for launching the careers of three of rock's most famous guitarists, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page.

Assembled with the assistance of the band, this new compilation is the first official vinyl collection in decades to gather together tracks from across the Clapton, Beck, and Page eras, showcasing the vast musical progression that the band made between 1963 and 1968.

this book is kinda mediocre. the first story was amazing. great art, great story, and great dialogue. very cool perspective on what seems like the covenants first encounter with the flood. the dialogue-less one about sgt johnson surviving in a flood infested area was pretty good too. the armor testing story wasn’t bad but kinda felt like a waste of time. and the last one had such terrible art i couldn’t even read it. but i also enjoyed reading the “behind the scenes” author’s notes before and after each story.

I bought this to see the story about the half-jaw white elite, one of my favorite characters. In that regard it was fantastic. That story and its art are epic. The next two stories were HORRENDOUS. The middle two stories truly look like they were drawn by talented 8th graders. The dialogue is cringe for the second story and the third story is wordless. There are also resolution issues throughout. Pictures don’t really get across just how UGLY the middle two stories are. The fourth and last story looks like an actual professional artist did it, but I’m too traumatized to try to read it. The foreword is insufferable and irrelevant and the end of the book is filled with fan art that is not quite charming in a book I paid money for.
