Agave colorataAgave colorata is found in Southern Sonora and Northern Sinaloa, primarily from the coast up to about 1000' in the foothills. There are two distinct forms, one a smaller more spoon shaped leaf plant that offsets, and a second medium sized plant, non offsetting, with elongated leaves. I have seen the first form, at Aquibiquichi, Sonora, the type locality. I have also seen the second one, in a palm canyon near San Carlos Bay, occuring with Brahea
Agave colorata is found in Southern Sonora and Northern Sinaloa, primarily from the coast up to about 1000' in the foothills. There are two distinct forms, one a smaller more spoon shaped leaf plant that offsets, and a second medium sized plant, non-offsetting, with elongated leaves. I have seen the first form, at Aquibiquichi, Sonora, the type locality. I have also seen the second one, in a palm canyon near San Carlos Bay, occuring with Brahea brandeegei, Washingtonia robusta, and possibly Brahea clara. The beautiful Acacia willardiana and a fourth palm, Sabal uresana, were also found here. Agave colorata can be grown in full sun and is hardy to the high teens.
