Patti Spooner has been a pioneer in sourcing pesticide-free organic coffee for over 30 years. In the early years, she travelled to Central America and visited both modernized and traditional farms. During her trip, Patti discovered profound distinctions between “full sun” and “shade-grown” coffee farming and the effect they have on the environment.

In the early '70s, farmers were encouraged to replace sustainable shade-grown coffee farming methods for higher profits. Additionally in order to stimulate plant growth synthetic fertilizers were introduced which have worsened water pollution, increased deforestation, and harmed people’s health.

With these discoveries in mind, Patti’s main concern is to continue to support certified organic farms and to spread the word on the importance of shade-grown coffee.
